Built around how resin artists actually work

Mix ratios are money math

A 2:1 pour that needs 0.9 oz of mixed resin costs a knowable amount — until cup residue, overpour and the odd failed cast eat into it. Build a waste allowance into each piece so pricing matches reality.

Molds wear out — someone has to pay for them

A $14 silicone mold good for ~80 casts adds about 18¢ to every piece. Amortize molds into your recipes and the replacements fund themselves instead of surprising you.

Pigments, glitter, inclusions — the tiny costs multiply

Mica, dyes, foils and dried flowers are cheap per gram and expensive per year. Tracking them in the recipe turns 'a pinch of glitter' into a real line item.

Every color is its own product

Ocean blue, galaxy purple, gold-flake clear — each colorway and shape sells differently. Variations show which combinations actually move so you pour more winners.

A day in Hivara, for resin artists

  1. 1

    Load your resin bench

Resin and hardener by the ounce, pigments by the gram, hardware and molds by the piece — all at real prices.

  2. 2

    Cast a batch

Log twelve keychains: mixed resin, pigment, hardware and a slice of mold life deduct; twelve finished pieces join stock.

  3. 3

Price by the cast, not the vibe

Each shape and colorway carries a true cost — so customs and markets are quoted from numbers, not nerves.

  4. 4

    Reorder ahead of the cure

Alerts on resin and your go-to pigments fire before a weekend of orders meets an empty bottle.

What a resin keychain really costs

This is the math Hivara does for every product you make — every line from a real bill of materials, updated whenever a supplier price changes.

The waste allowance and mold line are what separate a real resin cost from a hopeful one.

Questions resin artists ask

How do I price resin art pieces?

Cost the mixed resin your piece actually consumes (waste included), add pigments, inclusions, hardware, a share of mold life and your time — then set margin on top. Small pieces often price at 4–6× materials; large statement pieces are mostly labor.

How much resin does a piece really use?

More than the mold volume: cup residue, stir sticks and overpour typically add 10–20%. Weigh a few pours, set that as the recipe amount, and your remaining-resin count will finally match the bottle.

How do I account for failed casts and seconds?

Bake an expected failure rate into your waste allowance, and log genuine failures so materials draw down honestly. Sellable seconds can become their own discounted product instead of disappearing from the books.

Can I track dozens of colorways and shapes?

Yes — color and shape are variation axes, so a keychain in eight colors is one product with eight tracked combinations, each with real cost and stock.

Does resin inventory tracking work for custom orders?

Customs quote cleanly when the recipe exists: you know the resin, pigment and hardware cost before you answer the DM, and the order draws from stock like any other piece.
