KPIs Every Maker Should Track (and Ignore)

It's easy to drown in numbers — followers, views, total sales — and still not know whether your business is actually healthy. A KPI (key performance indicator) is just a number that tells you something you'll act on. For a maker, a small handful beats a giant dashboard every time.

The numbers worth watching

• Profit margin — what you keep after costs and fees, as a share of the sale. The single best measure of health.
• Profit per product — which items actually make money, so you know what to push (and which to fix).
