How to Price Stickers (Singles, Packs and Sheets)
A sticker costs more than its vinyl. Build the real per-sticker number, then price singles high enough that packs can discount.
Sticker pricing looks easy — the materials cost cents — and that's exactly why so many sticker shops earn less than they should. The per-unit price is small, the volumes are high, and every uncounted cent compounds across hundreds of sales. Here's the real math.
What a sticker actually costs
A 3-inch holographic die-cut, costed honestly:
- Holographic vinyl (incl. weeding waste) — about $0.11
- Laminate — about $0.05
- Ink — about $0.04
- Backing + cello sleeve — about $0.07
$0.27 per sticker — roughly double the naive vinyl-only number, because laminate, ink and waste are real. Matte vinyl runs cheaper, specialty films more; each finish deserves its own cost.
Singles set the anchor
A $0.27 sticker selling at $4 carries a 93% material margin — and it needs to, because that margin funds everything downstream: pack discounts, marketplace fees, and the design time no per-sticker line captures. Price singles strong ($3.50–5 for a 3-inch is normal) and let everything else discount from there.
Packs and sheets discount from a known floor
- 5-pack: five stickers cost ~$1.35 — at $12 the pack still earns 89%, and the order value tripled
- Sticker sheets: more vinyl per unit, so cost them as their own product, not "one big sticker"
- Wholesale: stickers wholesale well in packs — check the pack margin at 50% of retail before saying yes
Don't let fees eat the margin
On a $4 sticker, marketplace fees hit harder than on a $40 candle — Etsy's cut on a single sticker order can run past 15% once payment processing's fixed $0.25 lands on a small total. Run your prices through the free Etsy fee calculator and consider minimum order sizes or bundles to raise the average order.
Sticker pricing mistakes to avoid
- Costing the vinyl but not the laminate, ink and waste — the invisible half of sticker cost
- Pricing packs first — packs built on an underpriced single lock the whole shop underwater
- One price across all finishes — holographic and specialty films cost multiples of matte
- Ignoring the machine: cutter blades and printhead wear are real per-hundred costs
